GEORGIA LAND BANK ACT

Since 1991 Georgia Land Banks have been tackling vacancy and abandonment in an increasing number of communities. Georgia Land Banks are created by local governments and have special powers that help them achieve the ability to acquire tax delinquent properties and remove blight.

The Intergovernmental Contract was made on August 18, 2016, between LAURENS COUNTY, GEORGIA and the CITY OF DUBLIN, Geogia thus creating the DUBLIN-LAURENS LAND BANK, a separate legal entity and public body.

WHAT IS A LAND BANK?

A land bank is a public authority created to hold, manage, and develop tax delinquent, vacant, and dilapidated and other properties.  Land banks act as a legal and financial mechanism to transform vacant, abandoned, and tax-foreclosed property back to productive use. In addition, a land bank is a powerful locational incentive that encourages redevelopment in distressed, blighted communities.  This redevelopment is a direct reinvestment back into the Dublin and Laurens County neighborhoods to support our long-term growth.
